Ray Gurz – Skater, Artist, Musician

January 2, 2012

From Artist Connection Podcast: This interview was recorded on location at Double Decker Records in Allentown, Pa.  Having so much music around us really added to the vibe. Ray talked about his early experiences skateboarding, and eventually turning pro. He also went into business for himself with Lost Soul Skateboards. To Listen Download This Interview Here

We hear about his constant quest for skate spots. This is a search that endures to this day. Ray talks about the bodily harm he’s suffered through the years while riding, and assures us that it has never slowed him down. Hurt or not, he gets right back on the board. That dedication and commitment carries over to his music.  Ray is responsible for bass and vocals in tile, and vocals for the band Bad American. We talk about the local punk scene, past and present. Ray self published a book of Polaroid pictures called “Influence Victim”. We get the details on how this came about. I have a copy, and I encourage you to get one while he still has some available. We wrap up talking about our mutual love of vinyl albums, and the importance of a store like Double Decker Records. Ray is a very intense individual, and is dedicated to everything he pursues. He has a DIY approach to living that has inspired me on many levels. The worst thing you can do is tell Ray he can’t do something…He will prove you wrong.
